2020...

The Black Elephant Band

22-01-2020

It's not the first time we get to have The Black Elephant Band in the house. Each time we have shared a different exchange - always entertaining, always great!

The Black Elephant Band is the one-man-project of Jan Bratenstein, singer/songwriter from Nuremberg, Germany. His music has been compared to a drunken night with Tenacious D and a young Bob Dylan. Kimya Dawson, Jonathan Richman, Andrew Jackson Jihad and The Homeless Gospel Choir are other popular comparisons. Sort of anti-folk, they say:

"Acoustic-Folk at its best." (blueprint magazine)

"Authentic and refreshing with the very rare gift of writing, playing and performing in a way that is absolutely complete within itself." (Stephanie Forryan)

„I like the satirical lyrics.“ (Fred Cole)

„Weird anti-folk with beard, guitar and harmonica. To fall in love with!“ (Arsch und Friedrich)

Wolf & Moon

26-01-2020

Please join us for an early bird Sunday evening show.

Dream Folk duo Wolf & Moon are modern day storytelling nomads who have released debut album ‘Before It Gets Dark’ in 2019. Wolf & Moon’s music lives of the dichotomy of their voices and marries dreamy indie folk with electronic elements that invites you to slow dancing and day dreaming. They just have toured Australia, USA, England, Ireland, Germany and The Netherlands in support of the new record.

We're looking forward to hosting their Swiss show and hope you will join us to welcome Wolf & Moon to The Phrontistery "stage".

LILY

01-02-2020

Lily macht was sie will...

Cyrill Ferrari (git.)
Mirjam Hässig (voc.)
Nicolas Wolf (drums)
Johanna Pärli (kb, comp.)

Mokoš

06-02-2020

Ready for some Female Pirate Folk?

Come along to The Phrontistery for an adventure with the Mokoš - it promises to be a right old adventure!!  I am personally super excited about this upcoming show! Here's a taster of what you have to look forward to

-------

D.

A fast, ruthless, uncompromising sound which lends its influences from far and wide. Johnny is also a humorous storyteller and recalls stories of touring from twenty countries and counting where he's plied his trade. Embracing traditional music from Europe and sometimes frantic Bluegrass style picking, Johnny performs mostly self penned inspiring songs of protest, migration and debauchery.

Ryan Tennis

23-03-2020

Ryan Tennis (Philadelphia, USA)

"Listening to Ryan Tennis is like taking a road trip to a new place with an old friend. Songs range from soul-touching acoustic ballads to roots funk and soul to rollicking reggae covers, but under it all is a foundation of groove and warmth that keeps you moving forward."

Siselabonga

28-04-2020

Siselabonga melt traditional West African music with folk into a trance brew.

Tarang Cissokho is a griot (storyteller) and all his ancestors were griots. He plays the Kora a West African harp and sings in wolof and mandinco.

Fabio’s spare yet clever accompaniment on the calabash works like a heart beat conversing with Tarang’s relaxed pearly kora.

Blurring the lines between traditional and modern sounds without denouncing their roots. Siselabonga invites you to a soothing experience for the soul.
