Joshua Tecumseh Shooting Star Cielo

01-07-2020

Joshua Tecumseh Shooting Star Cielo, otherwise known as Josh, turned 48 on 02 July 2020 and EVERYONE was invited to join his celebration of his Art, Exploration and LIFE at The Phrontistery - with the bonus of a Mini Food Workshop - We very quickly learned how to make Vietnamese Summer Rolls and did indeed fall in love with the flavour explosion of this raw Vegan delight. Josh also brought some Hawaiian treats (Pupu's) for us all to enjoy.

--------

Despite the incredible rainstorms outdoors a group of us gathered to celebrate and support Josh on his artistic endeavours, we were rewarded with the tastiest of treats - new skills - new inspiration and a surprise free flowing expression of song and music from Josh's friend Ramon.

Thank you to Josh for bringing this all together!! -  Josh plans to host some mono printing workshops in the upcoming weeks. Keep your eyes on the Upcoming Events page to see when the next adventure is lined up.

OPEN Chooseday

15-06-2020

This Tuesday was a super quiet evening, I was reading alone for an hour before one by one a hand full of super familiar and friendly faces came to keep me company; we talked, we laughed, we played some instruments, shared creations, stories and world views that's how we saw the night through.

Keep your eyes on the Upcoming Events page to see when we are next open if you'd like to come along.

*Self Service, donation based - no card or TWINT payment possible - old school rules, the Piggy awaits you - paper notes are welcome too. :P

One More Night

25-06-2020

"One More Night" was a mini-music festival hosted by Aston Millard - a pianist and guitarist who plays a mix of folk and rock, Ben Koblmiller with his eccentric mixture of folk and noise, Ugo Tholomé’ and his jazz inspired sad rock, Lúcás Rohan, a multi-instrumentalist writing 80s rock songs on his laptop and indie/folk/rock musician Simon Michalek, who coordinated the entire event.

-------

What a marvelous experience this was. I am inspired by the creative, collaborative and vivacious spirit that this group of talented beings brought to the space.

Thank you dear Simon, I am delighted you chose The Phrontistery to host this show.

Stoppel & Bart

18-06-2020

Weder Fisch no Vogel

Thirstday

10-06-2020

The very first Thirstday after the COVID19 shutdown ♥  What a Thirstday that was!!

The front room was reserved for a gathering of politically engaged strong (mostly female) minds - their mission - the creation of Posters for the BLM peaceful protest, which is scheduled on Saturday 13 June 2020.

Meanwhile, the Grotto was mostly occupied by a surprise Birthday Party group, who made their own Photo booth and birthday buffet(including a home made Polish birthday cake)in celebration of Janka's 18th birthday.

To add to the dynamics of the evening, Roger (Der Schwärmer) offered a spontaneous kitchen concert.

There were so many different activities happening at the same time but the whole space, including the front of the shop, remained at everyone's disposal.  The cake was shared outside of the birthday group, everyone was invited to make a poster, or to enjoy Roger's show.

It was truly a lovely night "out" but "in" at The Phrontistery.

Thank you for bringing your gathering along to last night's reality -  it is one that I shall treasure for a long time.

Keep your eyes on the Upcoming Events page to see when we are next open if you'd like to come along.

2A1N - Johnny Campbell and Mäkkelä

20-02-2020

2A1N - Two Acts One Night

Johnny Campbell

A fast, ruthless, uncompromising sound which lends its influences from far and wide. Johnny is also a humorous storyteller and recalls stories of touring from twenty countries and counting where he's plied his trade. Embracing traditional music from Europe and sometimes frantic Bluegrass style picking, Johnny performs mostly self penned inspiring songs of protest, migration and debauchery.

''One of folk’s brightest rising stars'' Bright Young Folk

''Johnny's got the personality to compliment the courage of his convictions'' The Living Tradition

---------

Mäkkelä

Songwriter/performer Mäkkelä and his multiple manifestations. Folk's Worst Nightmare Collective, Mäkkelä & The Holycopters, The Goho Hobos, The Très Biens, Church Of The Blue Nun and all other collaborations

---------

An alternative reality was on offer at The Phrontistery for all those who wanted to be out but away from the BIG BANGS and BOOMs of Fasnacht.  Thank you to Fabio and Iñigo who enthusiastically hosted the evening, making it possible for the guests and the musicians to share a charming evening in the confines of The Phrontistery.

Scar Polish

19-02-2020

Berlin-based Scar Polish, moniker to British-born Robin Fisher, is the final product of a transition phase. Taking an indie rock upbringing and switching things up with the inclusion of deranged electronics, Scar Polish takes a new musical leap into dream psychedelia, gritty sampling and ethereal soundscapes, yet keeping it playful, personal, lo-fi to its fullest and, most importantly, doing DIY justice.

"The psychedelic era turned upside down, driving through blips and bloops, and dragged experimental fits. So is Robin Fisher's project, or Scar Polish to the intimate. Fill your glass, get your favourite psychotropic, and have a good trip." - The Blog That Celebrates Itself

---------

How lucky we are to have been able to experience this creative being live in action.  He experienced quite the journey on his way to The Phrontistery, which added an intense touch of gratitude to the realities lived.

Thank you Robin for braving the terrain to reach us and for your explosive creative expressions! BIG THANK YOU to each of the guests who came along to share the evening!  You filled the space and my heart with your active participation in co-creating this super evening!!!

Bite of Art

new realm of social, creative and gastronomic experience!

A magical journey of creating, painting, eating, drinking and socialising together for an evening packed with art, food, bliss and loving people in the heart of Lucerne.

Paint your own masterpiece under the professional yet playful artistic instruction of Philipp Gurtner, whose teaching will guide you through all obstacles of getting your ideas onto a canvas to call it your very own creation and mastery after this evening. Be open. You will be able to forget the struggles of life for this wonderful evening.

Things to bring with you for the evening:

1. Enthusiasm, curiosity and willingness to paint the masterpiece you always wanted.

2. A4-sized printout of a picture of your choice. This will be used as the base for the painting you will create at this ArtBite event. A digital photo reference might be printed in the phrontistery as well.

3. An appetite for Bite-sized snacks that will be made available for you on this journey of artistic discovery through in-between food tasting with a raclette machine for bite sized Pizzas.

EQUIPMENT

A photographical reference/template, easels, canvases, palettes, cups, pencils, erasers, brushes, colours, aprons.

Guests can eat and drink before, during and/or after the workshop in the "bar" or kitchen.

Workshop Teacher: Philipp Gurtner

Hostess for the evening: Neda Moasser (The Phrontistery)

ABOUT PHILIPP

Philipp hass been working as a freelancing artist for a decade now and has organised and directed several humanitarian mural painting projects in international children's aid organisations in addition to classical landscape and portrait painting. He is also engaged in illustrating children's books and spiritual board game designs.

Fine Art as well as Street Art belong to Philipp's deepest passions. Combining them with an educational and mediating value has led him to his independence. He loves nothing more than to let people immerse themselves in this incredibly exciting creative culture, not only to show them the meditative healing that lies in art and painting but also to teach people and let them be part of a new learning process. "Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. All you need for it are a few tools, a little instruction and a vision in your mind."

Mokoš

06-02-2020

Ready for some Female Pirate Folk?

Come along to The Phrontistery for an adventure with the Mokoš - it promises to be a right old adventure!!  I am personally super excited about this upcoming show! Here's a taster of what you have to look forward to

-------

D.

-------

All I can say is...one show is not enough - if you ever have the chance to see this duo play, watch TAKE IT.

LILY

01-02-2020

Lily macht was sie will...

Wolf & Moon

26-01-2020

Dream Folk duo Wolf & Moon are modern day storytelling nomads who have released debut album ‘Before It Gets Dark’ in 2019. Wolf & Moon’s music lives of the dichotomy of their voices and marries dreamy indie folk with electronic elements that invites you to slow dancing and day dreaming. They just have toured Australia, USA, England, Ireland, Germany and The Netherlands in support of the new record.

It was beautiful Sunday evening at the Phrontistery as soon as Wolf & Moon walked through the door - talented, charismatic, genuine and charming.  Delightful in every way, we do hope they will come back again!

The Black Elephant Band

22-01-2020

It's not the first time we had The Black Elephant Band in the house, and it won't be the last. Each time we have shared a different exchange - always entertaining, always great!

The Black Elephant Band is the one-man-project of Jan Bratenstein, singer/songwriter from Nuremberg, Germany. His music has been compared to a drunken night with Tenacious D and a young Bob Dylan. Kimya Dawson, Jonathan Richman, Andrew Jackson Jihad and The Homeless Gospel Choir are other popular comparisons. Sort of anti-folk, they say:

"Acoustic-Folk at its best." (blueprint magazine)

"Authentic and refreshing with the very rare gift of writing, playing and performing in a way that is absolutely complete within itself." (Stephanie Forryan)

„I like the satirical lyrics.“ (Fred Cole)

„Weird anti-folk with beard, guitar and harmonica. To fall in love with!“ (Arsch und Friedrich)

More Info

Thank you to Jan and all those who came back to visit us and to all of you  who came along for the first time, you made the evening the fun filled and energised reality that we lived!!

10-01-2020
